Let Come.

These two words have a way of overtaking our timidity with tenacity.

Giving us another sweet spot (or challenging tension!) that holds both permission and power.

It makes me think of a young child learning to walk. We give them permission by standing the toddler up on their feet and then moving a few steps away holding our arms out, calling “Come here!” As the child steps and wobbles but stays standing and then bravely steps with the other foot, they are finding a power to do what they didn’t even know they could. In a matter of weeks.. they are running and we are cleaning up scraped knees!

In John 17:4 we hear Jesus pray to God his father… I have glorified you on the earth by faithfully doing everything you’ve told me to do.

God tells us to do things, too! Are we listening?

He doesn’t ask us to do everything. Nor to do things perfectly. God is looking for our faithfulness as seen through repeated steps of obedience.

I close with one last reference in the book The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien.

At the very end of the book, the adventurer Bilbo Baggins returns home. In receiving his guest Gandalf for a visit we read…

Gandalf looked at him. “My dear Bilbo!” he said. “Something is the matter with you! You are not the hobbit you were.”

May it be said of us too at the end of our mission here on earth. When the Father God and our loved ones welcome us to our forever home with them. Because of a series of brave, wobbly steps, our lives became something much more than we ever imagined they could be as we lived into the permission and power of those two small words… Let Come.
