Hello Vineyard Family,
Due to the weather conditions and the distance many of our church members drive to church we have decided to cancel our Ash Wednesday service tonight. While disappointed, we know the kingdom will still advance as we change gears!
As Mike mentioned on Sunday, Lent provides us an annual time for a re-set in our attention, affections, and habits. In repentance, we turn from the things in our lives that are getting in the way of God’s loving design. We return to the Lord with an open heart and open hands.
Lent is spiritual training - similar to a boot camp. We engage in certain practices that challenge us out of our comforts that have become ruts in our lives. We stretch and give more time, energy, and even our finances in order to grow in Christ and the life he desires for us in peace, joy, health, and freedom.
1. The Lord’s Prayer Devotional: (Get the Devotional here) We will be using this through Lent this year. Go ahead and prayerfully read through pages 1-2, Jesus, Teach Us to Pray.
2. Fasting and Feasting Guide: (Get the Guide here) You are invited to a collective media fast as a church for the 40 days of Lent. Prayerfully review this guide and decide what your fasting and feasting will look like. You are also welcome to do other types of fasting, like food.
3. Gatherings: Find a way to share with others in the coming days and weeks.
• Men’s Breakfast (w/ Kevin Blocher), Saturday March 8, 9:00am - 10:00am at church.
• Leap of Faith Small Group (w/Katie Kisling), Sunday March 9, 8:30am - 9:30am at church.
• Fasting and Feasting (w/ Eric, Tabitha Nicolaysen), Sunday, March 9, 5:00pm - 5:30pm via Zoom
This Sunday, March 9th, we will talk more and have printed copies of materials.
If you’d like to attend an Ash Wednesday Service via Livestream, good news - we’re a big Vineyard family! We encourage you to attend through Vineyard Church of Davenport here (or view below). Their service begins at 6:00pm tonight.
Here’s a challenge and a promise as we begin our Leap of Faith:
Steep your life in God-reality, God-initiative, God-provisions. Don’t worry about missing out. You’ll find all your everyday human concerns will be met. Matthew 6:33, The Message
See you Sunday!
